Trying to get kids to clean is like trying to hang a picture in a wall of jello. It just doesn't work. I have tried everything, but my kids just won't clean. They would rather sit and do nothing all day than pick up one piece of trash. Maybe it is just that my kids are overly stubborn, but I can't seem to get them to do anything. Until I discovered the house game on Pinterest (I love that place). Well I should say that it at least helps SOMETIMES, other times all they want to do is the "rolling the dice" part.

So what is the house game you might be asking? Well let me tell you. It is really a simple idea, all you need is a sheet of paper to print (or draw if you are that talented) and 2 dice. On the paper you make a grid that is 3x4 (creating 12 spaces). In each space you write the numbers 1 to 12 and a room in the house that you want cleaned. I have laminated ours so the boys can take turns crossing off the rooms as we get them cleaned. To start we were using the small game dice. But I found some large foam ones on Amazon that I just couldn't do without. The boys love to toss the dice, but it is still a bit of a challenge to get them to figure out what they need to do in each room, as if they don't see the floor needs to be swept or the windows washed.
Anyway, it is working. They are at least getting up and helping a little, even if I do have to tell them to pick up the toy instead of stand on it or step over it.
